Celebrity Props Odds: Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs Dead at 56

Steve Jobs, the former Apple CEO who invented every piece of tech you know with an “I” in it, died at the age of 56 Wednesday.

The power of Jobs’ inventions cannot be understated, as most people are probably hearing this tragic news on one of his gadgets: the Macbook to the iPod, iPad and iPhone.

Apple announced his death without giving the specific cause. However, he had been fighting pancreatic cancer.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today," the company said in a brief statement. "Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

Jobs has been battling cancer for seven years. In 2004 he was diagnosed and underwent a liver transplant in 2009; it was that year that he took a leave of absence for “health problems.” He was able to recover enough to return, however he would have to leave again in January, eventually resigning as CEO just six weeks ago. Tim Cook took over and will remain the new CEO.

Jobs was fired by Apple during its decline, but once rehired was the main component of its resurgence into a technological power.

The biggest impact Jobs had was his iPod device that essentially changed the music distribution market from CD-driven to digital download, and touch-screen devices that made phones more accessible and user friendly. His devices have even made a significant dent in the gaming industry. Companies like Nintendo that dominated the hand-held gaming market are currently struggling to keep up with the interactivity and versatility that “apps” from the iPhone and iPad provide.
